Walt Disney said this about all the extraordinary achievements of his life, starting with a drawing of Mickey Mouse. Its astonishing to think that a simple cartoon character lead to what the whole world now envisions when the name Disney is mentioned. In a similar fashion, it was an afternoon's visit to The Walt Disney Family Museum in San Francisco that set Jim on the path to create "Picturing The Walt Disney Family Museum."
In 2009, The Walt Disney Family Museum opened in The Presidio of San Francisco, destined to become a top destination for travelers to the Bay Area. Jim visited the museum at the time of its opening and was inspired by it's magic.
The museum was created thanks to the energetic efforts of Diane Disney Miller and the Disney family to honor the imagination and creativity of Walt - a man who revolutionized the entertainment world with his films, television shows, theme parks, music, books and multi-media. Walt was an artistic genius and this Disney museum is a work of art. It captures how Disney amazingly reshaped the popular culture of America. Perhaps Walt's greatest legacy was to demonstrate the power of one's imagination to enliven today and enhance tomorrow.
The impact of this message so inspired Jim that he approached the museum with his idea of creating a book that would capture the spirit of the museum and the unrivaled genius of Walt Disney. Working with the museum's exemplary Director, Richard Benefield and his enthusiastic staff, Jim created "Picturing the Walt Disney Family Museum" . The book is an extraordinary virtual visit to this beautiful new museum and showcases the life of one of the great geniuses of the twentieth century, Walt Disney.
The book, recently published, is now available online at the Museum Shop.
